[3:8]  1 tn Heb “the edge of the waters of the Jordan.” The word “River” is not in the Hebrew text, but has been supplied for clarity.

[3:8]  2 tn Heb “stand in the Jordan.” Here the repetition of the word “Jordan” would be redundant according to contemporary English style, so it was not included in the translation.

[6:16]  3 tn Heb “the people.”

[6:16]  4 tn Or “the shout.”

[6:16]  5 tn Heb “for the Lord has given to you the city.” The verbal form is a perfect, probably indicating certitude here.

[10:32]  6 tn Heb “he”; the implied subject may be Israel, or Joshua (as the commanding general of the army).

[13:30]  7 tn The words “their territory started at” are not in the Hebrew text, but have been supplied for clarification.

[13:30]  8 sn The Hebrew name Havvoth Jair means “the tent villages of Jair.”

[14:8]  9 tn Heb “brothers.”

[14:8]  10 tn Heb “went up with.”

[14:8]  11 tn Heb “made the heart[s] of the people melt.”

[14:8]  12 tn Heb “I filled up after the Lord my God,” an idiomatic statement meaning that Caleb remained loyal to the Lord.
