[7:1]  1 tn Heb “But the sons of Israel were unfaithful with unfaithfulness concerning what was set apart [to the Lord].”

[7:1]  2 tn 1 Chr 2:6 lists a “Zimri” (but no Zabdi) as one of the five sons of Zerah (cf. also 1 Chr 7:17, 18).

[7:1]  3 tn Heb “took from what was set apart [to the Lord].”

[7:1]  4 tn Heb “the anger of the Lord burned against the sons of Israel.”

[7:1]  sn This incident illustrates well the principle of corporate solidarity and corporate guilt. The sin of one man brought the Lord’s anger down upon the entire nation.

[14:1]  5 tn Heb “These are [the lands] which the sons of Israel received as an inheritance in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers of the tribes assigned as an inheritance to the sons of Israel.”

[14:4]  6 tn Heb “and they did not assign a portion to the Levites in the land, except cities [in which] to live and their pastures for their cattle and property.”

[17:1]  7 tn Heb “and the lot belonged to the tribe of Manasseh, for he was the firstborn of Joseph.”

[17:1]  8 tn Heb “to Makir, the firstborn of Manasseh, the father of Gilead, for he was a man of war.”

[17:1]  9 tn Heb “Gilead and Bashan belonged to him.”

[17:1]  sn On the assignment of Manasseh’s territory in Gilead and Bashan, see Josh 13:31.

[19:51]  10 tn Heb “the leaders of the fathers of the tribes.”

[19:51]  11 tn Heb “at the entrance of the tent of assembly.”

[19:51]  sn On the tent of meeting see Exod 33:7-11.

[21:27]  12 tn The words “they assigned” and “the following cities” are supplied for clarification (also in v. 34).

[22:14]  13 tn Heb “ten leaders with him, one leader, one leader for a paternal house, for all the tribes of Israel, and each a head of the house of their father, they belong to the clans of Israel.”
