  We are gathered today in our Sunday school, With our hearts full of grateful praise; We rejoice, we rejoice, as we hither come, That the Lord doth direct our ways. Refrain We would join in the song of welcome: Welcome one and all today! Let us strive with our might e’er to do the right, And to seek for the lambs astray. We would go forth with zeal in our Master’s Name, And would bring many wand’rers in; We would tell them of Christ, who from glory came, E’en to save them from death and sin. Refrain One and all with a will let us work today, To restore to the Lord His own; Leading souls to the bright and the shining way, Serving Jesus, and Him alone. Refrain

  Poor Esau repented too late That once he his birth-right despised; And sold, for a morsel of meat, What could not too highly be prized: How great was his anguish when told, The blessing he sought to obtain, Was gone with the birth-right he sold, And none could recall it again! He stands as a warning to all, Wherever the Gospel shall come; O hasten and yield to the call, While yet for repentance there’s room! Your season will quickly be past, Then hear and obey it today; Lest when you seek mercy at last, The Savior should frown you away. What is it the world can propose? A morsel of meat at the best! For this are you willing to lose A share in the joys of the blest? Its pleasures will speedily end, Its favor and praise are but breath; And what can its profits befriend Your soul in the moment of death? If Jesus for these you despise, And sin to the Savior prefer; In vain your entreaties and cries, When summoned to stand at His bar: How will you His presence abide? What anguish will torture your heart? The saints all enthroned by His side, And you be compelled to depart. Too often, dear Savior, have I Preferred some poor trifle to Thee; How is it Thou dost not deny The blessing and birth-right to me? No better than Esau I am, Though pardon and Heaven be mine; To me belongs nothing but shame, The praise and the glory be Thine.

  Blest hour, when mortal man retires To hold communion with his God; To send to Heaven his warm desires, And listen to the sacred word. Blest hour, when God Himself draws nigh, Well pleased His people’s voice to hear; To hush the penitential sigh, And wipe away the mourner’s tear. Blest hour, for, when the Lord resorts, Foretastes of future bliss are given; And mortals find His earthly courts The house of God, the gate of Heaven. Gladly the toys of earth we leave, Wealth, pleasure, fame, for Thee alone; To Thee our will, soul, flesh, we give, O take, O seal them for Thine own!   Only begotten, Word of God eternal, Lord of Creation, merciful and mighty, List to Thy servants, when their tuneful voices Rise to Thy presence. Thus in our solemn Feast of Dedication, Graced with returning rites of due devotion, Ever Thy children, year by year rejoicing, Chant in Thy temple. This is Thy palace; here Thy presence-chamber; Here may Thy servants, at the mystic banquet, Daily adoring, take the Body broken, Drink of Thy chalice. Here for Thy children stands the holy laver, Fountain of pardon for the guilt of nature, Cleansed by whose water springs a race anointed, Liegemen of Jesus. Here in our sickness healing grace aboundeth, Light in our blindness, in our toil refreshment; Sin is forgiven, hope o’er fear prevaileth, Joy over sorrow. Hallowed this dwelling where the Lord abideth, This is none other than the gate of Heaven; Strangers and pilgrims, making homes eternal, Pass through its portals. Lord, we beseech Thee, as we throng Thy temple, By Thy past blessings, by Thy present bounty, Smile on Thy children, and with tender mercy, Hear our petitions. God in three Persons, Father everlasting, Son co-eternal, ever blessèd Spirit, Thine be the glory, praise and adoration, Now and forever.
